Mounting the Horizontal Stabilizers page 4

There is a support strut on the forward end of the horizontal stabilizers.  The support strut is made from 4130 "N" streamline tubing and runs from the front tube of the stabilizer, down to a mounting lug welded to the fuselage bottom longeron at station J/H.

Here is the Support Strut mounted in place to the left Horizontal Stabilizer:

To start with, we will make the bottom fitting.

The bottom end of the support strut is slotted so it can fit to a mounting lug that is welded to the fuselage bottom longeron.  The slot is doubled with a piece of .035 steel plate.

The strut is fitted in place and bolted to the mounting lug that was welded to the fuselage bottom longeron at station "J/H".

Here is the bottom end bolted to the mounting lug:

Now for the top fitting . . .
